If I had a Website

Sometimes we pull talents and interests from our ancestors that can only be described as legacy. Quilting is a hobby for me since the turn of the century. My immediate ancestors and neighbors were seamtresses and hand quilters respectively. My quilts are treasures in the homes of family and friends. What a joy to create. Whether you draw or paint or sew there is not only joy in creativity there is pride in accomplishing work. Crafts are especially fulfilling because they are functional, useful and sometimes even necessary. Share the joy.The Empire Quilters Guild, Quilters of Color New York and Harlem Needle Arts hold meetings and exhibits that display quilts as 'fabric art.'The value of handmade objects for the home or the museum is debatable. Clients and friends say to me how long did it take you to make this quilt? Are they asking what is my hourly rate to make a queen size multipieced heirloom quilt? Why are handcrafted goods so expensive? The pricing is in the piecing. Is quilting a hobby or a profession?
The components of a quilt are more than the time it takes to machine stitch a quilt. Quilters are fabricholics. We shop unceasingly for fabric. We also purchase tools and supplies used in sewing, including books. We take classes and workshops. We are members of quilting guilds and bees that produce gifts for charity. Are you counting the hours? The months? The years?
Cost Analysis: time; design phase; components: fabric, thread batting supplies; marketing: craft Fair booth fees; Flea Markets; websites.
